Hospitality in the Gospel of John - Week 2

Posted by David McNitzky on

Week 2 “Take you to be with Me” John 14:3
It was unavoidable. The other car ran through the stop sign in front of us. We were going 70 mph on the highway. Moments later we sat stunned in our car. My wife was struggling to breathe after a chest wall contusion. I could not find a phone to call 911. My door wouldn’t open and our car was smoking. It seemed so surreal. And then it started... People came from every where over the next few hours to help. A young man opened the passenger side door and got us out of the car. A tow truck driver stopped and put out cones to protect us. A nurse stopped to give aid. Someone called 911. Others helped extricate the other driver from her car. The sheriff’s department arrived as did the DPS. Soon the EMS ambulance came. Then we were transported to St David’s Round Rock. Two trauma teams met us. We were taken for CT Scans. Returning to the emergency room our son was waiting for us. Another son drove in from Enchanted Rock with his wife. After our release, they drove us to the tow yard to retrieve our valuables and then drove us back home.

So many came to help, doing for us what we couldn’t do for ourselves; taking us where we could not go on our own. That’s what I call hospitality. That’s also what Jesus promises to do for us in John 14. We are grateful to have avoided death at 70 mph, but ultimately death will one day be unavoidable. As grateful as I am to be alive and relatively unharmed after Saturday’s accident, I am even more grateful for a Savior who will one day take me home―the ultimate hospitality.

Question to Consider:
Jesus is our guide after death. How have you experienced him as a guide for your life?
